“Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.” – Micah 7:18-19

Through life, we do lots of things that are not in any way pleasing to God. We live with sin, and it burdens our hearts. It blackens our lives and captivates us with an override with even more sin. However, if we learn to trust in God, repent, and ask Him for forgiveness, He will clean us and make us white as snow. Just as the book of Micah says, God “does not stay angry forever but delights to show mercy”. God is delighted to welcome His children into His kingdom. He already has a room set for each of us; He is just waiting for us to accept it. It is never too late to ask for forgiveness. When you ask for forgiveness, it feels so uplifting and sometimes unreal. It fills you with a weakness. Not a weakness of hopelessness, but with the kind that leaves you asking hundreds of questions: Why would you forgive someone like me? How could you possibly forgive me for all of the wrong things I have done? This feeling reminds me of one of my favorite songs in today’s Christian music. It’s called How Can It Be by Lauren Daigle. The lyrics exclaim,

“You plead my cause, you right my wrongs
You break my chains, you overcome
You gave your life to give me mine
You say that I am free
How can it be, how can it be?”

“Though I fall, you can make me new
From this death I will rise with you
Oh, the grace reaching out for me
How can it be, how can it be?”

This song asks all the questions that we could possibly ask God after He forgives us of our sins. It is such an incredible and fulfilling sensation that it leaves you without any words. All these questions can be answered simply: He is a powerful God who loves every one of us without any discrimination! Yes, it’s hard to believe, but He will forgive us for any level of sin because He loves us so much. That doesn’t mean continue sinning and keep asking forgiveness every once in a while. Like a mentor once told me, “There will come a time when God says, ‘I know you no longer’. Repentance is a one hundred eighty degree turn to the completely other direction”. Ask for forgiveness and strive your hardest to live for God. You might fail a lot, but God will always be there as a supporter and to pick you up once again as He has before to guide you.
